BatteryLimits undertakes flowsheet development for Greenland’s uranium and rare earths project

BatteryLimits was commissioned by Greenland Minerals and Energy  to manage the development of the process flowsheets for its complex uranium and rare earths Kvanefjeld project in Greenland.

Perth-based SGS Lakefield Oretest was engaged to carry out the fourth program of testwork, following initial stages of work by Amdel.  Previous work had shown that the rare earths could be beneficiated by flotation, and uranium to a lesser extent.  The recovery of REEs and uranium to a flotation concentrate equated to over 90% and 70% respectively.

The objective of the fourth program of work was to further evaluate and prioritise process parameters for the recovery of REEs and uranium via two processing options, the flotation/sulphation roast/water leach process option, and the carbonate pressure leach process option.

Greenland Minerals and Energy expects to complete a Prefeasibility Study during 2009.    BatteryLimits will be undertaking a risk analysis on the project as part of the Study.
